SYNCHRONIZER

For Spinning in Infinity, a Radio France / IRCAM coproduction, I had the pleasure of working with Greg Beller as Computer Music Designer. Amongst the tools we created was a Synchronizer, a patch that allows one to visualize (using bach) the content of mono soundfiles and to graphically alter the pitch and onset information—aligning voices for chorales, retuning to microtonal grids, applying incremental stretches to create a melting mensural canon…

Behind each of these voices is a mubu buffer that dynamically readjusts to manipulations in the notation window, creating breakpoint functions that pliot the time stretch and pitch shift parameters of SuperVP—a phase vocoder which can be implemented in real time, as a useful compositional tool, or applied offline for a higher-quality rendering.
