—N’T GO ANY FURTHER (2007) for bass clarinet, tenor saxophone, violin, viola, and cello [10:45] —N’T GO ANY FURTHER gets its title from a partially effaced ceramic tile message embedded in the concrete sidewalk at the corner of Poland and St. Claude Avenues in New Orleans. The piece deals with borders and boundaries. Its aim is to dispose of the dichotomy between sudden cuts and gradual transformation; every transition between the many small snapshots of music involves both. The piece is best heard as a single continuous and fluid line, bent into various and often unexpected directions. As its title seems to contradict his motto (“continuons d’aller plus loin”), the piece is dedicated to Philippe Leroux.
